There is a growing body of research pointing to the power of nutrition to support our bodies in midlife. And this year, the largest piece of research to date by the gut-focused team Zoe at King's College London confirmed what we’ve seen in the 100s of conversations we have every day within the MPowder community; our metabolic rate is impacted by menopause - and nutrition can make a big difference to our symptoms.

Hormone fluctuations affect every single cell in our body. From how much stomach acid we produce, to the satiation signals that tell our stomachs that we’re full.

So, how can we tweak what we put on our plate? Are there easy-to-find herbs and hacks? Dr Martins, MPowder’s naturopath and herbalist shares the plants that take pride of place in her window box:

    praise parsley!

High in folate as well as vitamin C and flavanoids, parsley supports healthy blood sugar levels and, due to its diuretic effects, can aid UTIs. Simply sprinkle handfuls onto salads and stir into sauces - or for a stronger boost, make an infusion using hot water.

    reach for rosemary

High in antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, rich in aroma, this hardy herb could boost our immune system and help with blood circulation - small scale studies point to its potential in helping boost mood and cognition too.

    sage, we salute you!

Often found in the health food aisle, some people find it helps with hot flashes. More research is needed - but the herb is also a good source of vitamin K, A and C, packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds as well as being rich in flavour.

MPowder’s wholefood-led formulations are designed to act as a vital foundation layer for your menopause journey. To find out more about the brand’s philosophy and blends, take a peek HERE

And, as always when introducing nutritional changes, do your own research. If you’re concerned about medical contraindications or have an underlying health condition, consult your doctor. Nature packs a powerful punch - even with familiar herbs.
