In this article, we’re going to take a look at how yoga can lead to better sex, share the best sexual yoga poses with you, and give you tips on opening your sacral chakra through yoga.

Ready to begin cultivating your sexual goddess through yoga? Let’s get to practice!

Can Yoga Really Help You Have Better Sex?

It’s not all about kegel exercises and “spicing things up” in the bedroom: practising yoga is one of the best ways to improve your sex life whilst also bettering your wellbeing and physical health!

But, how exactly does yoga improve your sex life?

Well, there are a number of reasons why doing a Chaturanga or two can help your sex life get a little hotter.

    Yoga Reduces Stress and Anxiety

Firstly and most impactfully, yoga helps reduce your stress and anxiety levels by bringing your concentration inwards and helping you reconnect with both your mind and your body.

One of the biggest reasons many people’s sex lives aren’t as good as they would hope is because they’re too in their heads: feeling stressed is not conducive to having a pleasurable sexual experience. Additionally, you may not be able to get in the mood in the first place if you’re overly stressed - stress is a known sex-drive killer.

To be able to fully enjoy sex, there needs to be an element of mindfulness attached to it - yes, your mind really shouldn’t be wandering towards your to-do list whilst your partner is going down on you…

Yoga gives you the opportunity to not only get rid of any stressors from your day and immediate life, but it also helps you train your mind to stop sweating the small stuff, bringing an element of mindfulness into every activity you do - reducing stress in both the short and long term can improve your sex life tenfold.

Yoga Positions Can Help You Become More Aware of Your Body

Every position in yoga can help you become more aware of your body: what feels good, where your tensions lie, and even what emotions connect with different areas of your body.

Becoming more aware of your body through yoga can increase your sexual health and happiness in a number of ways, from allowing you to become more flexible and try out new positions, to giving you the opportunity to reconnect with your body in a more loving and mindful way.

These benefits convert directly into a better sex life because they not only help you feel more connected with your body and all its wonder, but they help you become more free, fun, and exploratory in the bedroom.

Yoga Can Help You Tap Into Your Sensual Energy

Practising yoga is a great way to tap into the sensual energy that’s stored within you, especially if you’re practising types of yoga such as yin or vinyasa, allowing you to connect with your feminine, flowing energy.

Performing exercises that tap into this type of energy, instead of exercises that bring forward more masculine types of energy such as HIIT, can help you ease into a more sensual state and explore your femininity, especially when it comes to sex.

A yoga class in which you focus on calling forward your feminine energy both within your body and mind may leave you feeling soft, sexy, and ready to hop into bed!

6 Yoga Poses For Better Sex

Whilst searching for sexual yoga poses might come up with some interesting search results online, there are actually specific yoga poses that you can practise for better sex.

Whether you’re on the mat in class or getting frisky with your lover, these 5 yoga poses call you deeper into your body and make making love that little bit more fun.

Cat and Cow Pose (Marjaryasana and Bitilasana)

The well-known and easily practised cat and cow pose is a great way to warm your body up, release any tension that you may be holding, and cultivate more flowing energy within your body.

Whilst doing this as part of a yoga routine can prepare you for a great practice and help you reconnect with your body, doing this before having sex can actually call forward sensual energy and warm you up mentally and physically to being sexual.

    Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana)

When it comes to yoga for sexual health, bridge pose has your back (or rather, your pelvic floor). Bridge pose is a great position for strengthening your pelvic floor muscles which can help not only with increasing natural lubrication, pain-less penetration, and increased blood flow, but it also directly impacts sexual function.

You can practice this pose before sex or even pop a pillow under your butt or back during sex to enjoy assisted bridge pose as a sex position.

    Happy Baby (Ananda Balasana)

Happy Baby is a great pose to not only stretch out the hips, thighs, and lower back, but it also cultivates a sense of fun and freedom within the body. It’s also said to balance the sacral chakra (the chakra that governs sexuality and sexual expression, amongst other things).

If you favour deeper penetration, this is also a great yoga pose for sex, and you can alter it in any way that suits you: you can always wrap your legs around your partner’s back if you don’t want to hold your legs.

    Pigeon Pose (Kapotasana)

Our hips are one of the most common areas in our bodies that hold tension, both emotional and physical. Therefore, practising pigeon pose regularly can help us release this tension, whilst also allowing us to open our hip flexors - this will be incredibly useful if you’ve ever experienced hip pain or cramp during sex.

Although this pose doesn’t make for a great sex position (we don’t recommend that you try this in the bedroom), it’s a powerful way to open your hips up, so get that pre-sex stretch in with this pose!

    Child’s Pose (Balasana)

Child’s pose physically stretches your back, hips, and legs, whilst also allowing you to take a moment to look inward and connect with yourself. This is one of the most calming and restorative positions in yoga, helping reduce your stress and anxiety levels and prompting you to take time to really think about yourself.

If you want to practice this pose specifically to help your sex life, you can always widen the knees, open the hips slightly, lean into it and envision calling forward sexual energy into your body.

Extra Tip: Use Breathwork For Better Sex

Breathwork, done in several specific ways but in general used to describe being actively in control of your breath and bringing it to the front of your mind, can do wonders for your overall wellbeing, but particularly for your sex life.

Whether you practice light breathwork during a yoga practice, you attend a more intense guided breathwork session to release tension, or you use tantric breathwork techniques to prolong your pleasure during sex, the power of the breath is almighty, and it can help heighten the pleasure you experience in the bedroom.

    The Takeaway

Yoga can be incredibly powerful at giving you a better sex life in so many different ways, whether that’s giving you an outlet to release tension or helping you feel more sensual in the bedroom with some sex positions that increase your pleasure.
